Plasma diagnostics on ECR ion sources

The plasmas of Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Sources (ECRISs) are actively being studied using a variety of plasma diagnostics. These diagnostics have the potential to advance ECRIS development. An example of this is the absolute volumetric emission rate of Kα that was measured for the first time and can be used for benchmarking numerical simulation codes. We have recently concluded a number of investigations on ECRIS plasmas on two independent ECR ion sources i.e. 14 GHz ECRIS at Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä (JYFL) and 14.5 Grenoble Test Source (GTS) at iThemba LABS (Laboratory for Accelerator Based Sciences). The results of these investigations will be discussed as well as future investigations. Additionally we will also describe the variety of ion sources and their application at iThemba LABS.
