GANIL User Group: why it is important to become a member

The GANIL management with the help of the H2020 IDEAAL project team took an initiative to organize and structure a GANIL User Group. Find out why and how you can become a member of the GANIL User Group.

Q: Why become a member of the GANIL User Group?

A: The database of members of the GANIL User Group will be used:

for the whole lifecycle of experiments at GANIL: from call for proposals to publication of results,
to distribute GANIL newsletters, conference and meeting announcements etc.,
to organize the election of the GANIL User Executive Committee (see below).
Only a member of the GANIL User Group can be elected to the GANIL User Executive Committee

Q: Who can become a member of the GANIL User Group?

A: All GANIL users who declare their interest and answer a short, dedicated questionnaire.

Q: How will GANIL Users be represented?

A: The GANIL User Group will be represented by an elected GANIL User Executive Committee (GUEC).

Q: What will be the role of the GANIL User Executive Committee (GUEC)?

A:

assisting the GANIL Management in developing an ambitious scientific program for GANIL (inputs for developments of infrastructure, detectors, operation, long-range planning,…)
organizing annual meetings of the GANIL User Group,
coordination of the editorial board of the GANIL Annual Report,
The chairperson of the GUEC – ex-officio member of GANIL Scientific Council, will confer on a regular basis with the chairpersons of PAC and GANIL SC,
The first elected GANIL User Executive Committee will prepare the Terms of Reference defining precisely the role and organization of the GANIL User Group.

Q: What will be the composition of the GANIL User Executive Committee?

A: The GANIL Users Executive Committee (GUEC) will consist of 7 members, elected for a 4-year term in the following way:

a. 3 members representing the Nuclear Physics GANIL user community of will be elected by all the members of the GANIL User Group;

b. 1 member will be elected by the collaborations involved with GANIL infrastructures;

c. 1 member will be elected by the collaborations involved with travelling detectors;

d. 1 member representing collaborations in atomic and material science and non-nuclear physics will be nominated by the Director of CIMAP;

e. 1 member, the liaison member of GANIL, will be nominated by the Director of GANIL, acting as the Secretary of the committee, and facilitating communication between the Committee and the GANIL Director.

The Chairperson of the Committee will be elected by the Executive Committee at the first meeting from the Committee members for a 4-year term.
