The DIAMANT is a high granularity, very compact, charged particle array of CsI(Tl) scintillators that can be placed at the center of a gamma-ray multidetector like AGATA. It is used to detect light charged particles like alpha, proton or deuterons emitted in fusion-evaporation or transfer reactions.
DIAMANT is used to select and/or reject specific charged-particle reaction channels. In nuclear structure experiments, this is crucial in order to remove background from the dominating unwanted de-excitation paths and to enhance the response function of the gamma-ray array in coincidence.
