CHATEAU DE CRISTAL

Presentation

The “Chateau de Cristal” is a high granularity, high efficiency, gamma-ray array detectors consisting of 74 BaF2 scintillators used for in-beam spectroscopy of radioactive nuclei.

Scientific goals

The “Chateau de Cristal” is used to performed in-beam gamma-rays spectroscopy of very rare events thanks to its high efficiency and excellent time resolution. In nuclear structure experiments using fast radioactive beams, it is crucial to remove background from the dominating unwanted atomic process and to select prompt coincidences with ancillary detectors. The array was used for the spectroscopy of the most exotic nuclei produced at the GANIL facility.
