IDEALEX – BAGE@NFS

GANIL and IDEALEX® Radioprotection (Vendôme – 41), a company specialising in radiation protection equipment, are working together to create an experimental glove box.

In July 2023, GANIL and IDEALEX® embarked on an innovative collaboration as part of a project entitled ‘Boîte à Gant Expérimentale’ (BAGE@NFS). It is funded by the Normandy Region, the Centre-Val de Loire Region and the European Union.

The project involves the design and production of a prototype of an experimental ‘glove box’ type device. This experimental device will be used to implant highly radioactive thin actinide targets in a secondary vacuum chamber equipped with detectors, enabling fundamental physics experiments to be carried out.

Glove boxes are regularly used in industry, but are not equipped with a junction to ensure a large pressure difference between the glove box and another enclosure. The DODIX® system provides this functionality. What’s more, the glovebox designed will be very small in size, unlike its commercial counterparts, and its aeraulic components will be placed on a remote trolley. This means it can be moved more easily and docked with other enclosures as required.

In our case, manoeuvrability and a small footprint are assets, since the experimental enclosures that are to house this glovebox can be very bulky and leave little access for the target insertion function. It is therefore essential that the prototype designed by this project be highly adaptable to existing and future devices, which may come from all over the world.

Working hand in hand, GANIL and IDEALEX® Radioprotection are carrying out the complete development of this experimental Glove Box (BaGE) device and meeting all the constraints identified.
