The Nuclear Shell Model; A long and winding road

Alfredo Poves Paredes (Institute of Theoretical Physics. UAM-CSIC, Madrid, Spain)

I will review some classical themes of nuclear spectroscopy with a twist: The effective interaction and the “ab initio” campaigns; The origin of nuclear (Quadrupole) collectivity and the emergence of Shape coexistence; The meaning of the idea of shape in the laboratory frame; The vulnerability of the magic closures and the Islands of Inversion, etc.
