One of the main goals of hypernuclear physics is to understand baryon-baryon interactions in a unified framework. Baryon-baryon scattering experiments provide a valuable tool for this purpose. However, because hyperons such as the Λ and Ξ have very short lifetimes, it is difficult to perform direct Λ-nucleon and Ξ-nucleon scattering experiments. Therefore, it is crucial to study the structure of hypernuclei, such as single-Λ hypernuclei and Ξ hypernuclei, in order to gain insight into these interactions.
Understanding hyperon-nucleon interactions is also important for investigating the inner cores of neutron stars.
In this seminar, I will review the recent status of hypernuclear physics from the viewpoint of few-body problem in physics, with a particular focus on the structure of hypernuclei and the underlying baryon-baryon interactions.
