“Profs au GANIL” welcomes its second class

From 25 to 28 August 2025, GANIL welcomed 19 teachers from all over France (and beyond) for the second edition of the ‘Teachers at GANIL’ course, in partnership with IN2P3 and Sciences à l’École, with the aim of introducing them to nuclear physics research, major current scientific topics and the many related professions.

This immersive training course included a tour of the GANIL facilities, lectures on radiation-matter interaction, accelerator physics and nuclear physics, conferences on GANIL physics and electronuclear physics, practical work (particle separation with a dipole, alpha particle detection, infrared spectroscopy, gamma radiation detection), interdisciplinary exchanges (health, materials, astrophysics), feedback on educational activities carried out in the classroom, and a poster session on research careers followed by a tour of the mechanical workshops.

The course is a continuation of the French Teacher Programme at CERN and enhances the training offered to science teachers. It aims to encourage the emergence of ambitious educational projects in secondary schools related to physics.

The second class of teachers is named ‘neon’, in homage to the second accelerated beam at GANIL. Each future cohort will bear the name of an element accelerated at GANIL. From hydrogen to uranium, Profs au GANIL has a bright future ahead!
