Status of RAON and LAMPS: Another Future Opportunity for RIB Research

A new radioactive ion beam accelerator complex RAON is being constructed at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Korea. RAON will have both ISOL and IF systems and explore the possibility in the future to combine them in order to provide more exotic neutron-rich ion beams to users. Presently, the two major detector systems dedicated for nuclear physics are KOBRA and LAMPS. KOBRA will be used for nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics and LAMPS for the nuclear equation of state and symmetry energy at supra-saturation densities, which are essential to understand the effective nuclear interactions and several astrophysical objects like neutron stars. In this presentation, we are going to summarize the current status of RAON and LAMPS.
