A second EQUIPEX for GANIL - 21 December 2011

After S3 (next-generation spectrometer for physics with SPIRAL2) earlier this year, the equipment of Excellence DESIR (experimental room for physics at low energy with SPIRAL2) coordinated by GANIL, was selected among 270 projects by the National Agency of Research (ANR), led by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. Its implementation (July 2012 - June 2015) and the first years of its operation (July 2015 - December 2019) will be financed by resources reserved for facilities of Excellence (EQUIPEX). The amount allocated is € 9 million.

The official announcement was made by Laurent Wauquiez, Minister of Higher Education and Research, and René Ricol, Commissioner General for investment, to Jean-Charles Thomas, coordinator of the project, along with Sydney Galès, Director of GANIL, Bertram Blank, head of the DESIR collaboration.
The construction of DESIR at SPIRAL2 is based on the staff of GANIL, together with those of the LPC Caen, CIMAP, CEN Bordeaux-Gradignan, the IPN Orsay, CSNSM (Orsay) and the IPHC in Strasbourg. The project is strongly supported by CNRS, IN2P3, the Lower Normandy region, the University of Caen, ENSICAEN and NUCLEOPOLIS.
