SPIRAL 2 holds great promise for our advancing knowledge of the Universe



SPIRAL 2 PP is a European project associated with the construction of the new particle accelerator, SPIRAL 2, which involves 25 laboratories and companies from all over Europe. I manage this large project. I make sure everything proceeds under the best possible conditions. At the slightest incident, everything must be reorganized so that the adventure goes on. The first qualities required for this job are curiosity and organizational skills. My experience in experimental nuclear physics helps me to understand the project's overall objectives. I must then document myself, and gain information from specialists. The people I meet have very different backgrounds: scientists, administrators, legal officers. They each have their own project within the project, and must all work together in a consistent manner. The questions addressed are diverse: developing technologies, equipping the infrastructures, budgeting, legal matters, international relations. SPIRAL 2 is creating an extraordinary impetus, at the European scale. It strongly increases the dynamism of Research and holds great promise for our advancing knowledge of the Universe.
