A story of people and chance

What motivates me is going beyond a question, finding a solution… and if possible, before anyone else!

I work on nucleus fission, within the framework of a project for the incineration of nuclear waste from power plants. Storing this waste is a back-up solution, before something better is found. However, a law passed in 1991 requires that the scientific community find other possibilities. It is not possible to incinerate all of the waste, only that fraction which has a very long lifetime, of the order of 100,000 years. Waste would be stored for only 300 years. Working in the field of applied nuclear physics enables me to answer the public's expectations, and find solutions to the problem of climate change … what motivates me is to go beyond a question, to find a solution relying only on my ideas, which I will explore as deeply as possible, preferably before someone else! This is a story of people and chance. Maybe I'm the only one to have found this solution, and at GANIL… It is also a story of confrontation between existing structures and personal will.
