Men and women of Research

"Research is primarily the work of men desiring to know, driven by the need to understand."

The scientific community is scattered around the world. However, a common problem gathers this community. Each physicist is in a tight fabric of information exchange: Internet, collaborations, conferences, publications ...

Ideas and results flow quickly. This permanent confrontation validates the knowledge and raises new questions.

In the light of latest results, teams of physicists design experiments and then submit their proposal to the evaluation committee composed of international experts. if selected, the experiments will be scheduled during the year.

Then they design and implement the experimental system which will enable them to reap, day and night, during the time allocated for their experiment, the experimental data. During the few days they have the beam, they record billions of collisions.

Back in their laboratory, they "replay" the experience for months to extract the desired information. The results appear in journals, the very ones where researchers and scholars published their findings yesterday. These publications are the "library of knowledge" that men have built generation after generation. The results of basic research becomes knowledge, shared with everyone.

GANIL is also 226 people who combine their skills and ingenuity to the tenacity of researchers to enable the successful experiences of today and make tomorrow's developments.
