French-Japanese workshop - 29 Septembre 2008
A French-Japanese symposium was held in Paris, from 29 September to 2 October 2008, to discuss the new nuclear physics paradigm.
Indeed, a new era of nuclear physics research has recently begun between Japan and France. In 2007, the first ion beam in the superconducting RIBF cyclotron at the RIKEN laboratory in Japan was successfully accelerated.
In France, at GANIL, the SPIRAL2 project stands out as the only facility capable of accelerating a beam of radioactive ions produced by fragmentation. This new generation of facilities built in France and Japan will significantly push back the frontiers of nuclear physics.
The aim of the French-Japanese workshop held in Paris from 29 September to 2 October 2008 was to discuss the possibility of developing different models and theories on the structure of heavy exotic nuclei (the super-heavies), which will be at the forefront of the new generation of radioactive ion beams.
